Acoustics Study Day: 'I see a voice' & Van Lawrence Award
Sunday 20th May, 2012 10.00am – 5.00pm

The day will focus on practical applications of acoustics. The acoustics of the vocal tract will be outlined, including investigation of vowel production for speakers and singers. The way in which the ear processes incoming voice signals will be explored with some surprising anomalies.
The afternoon will feature the Van Lawrence award finalist presentations, and will end with a practical workshop demonstration of the use of acoustic analysis software in the teaching studio.

- David Howard (Professor of Electronic Engineering, York University)
- Christian Herbst (Postdoctoral Researcher at the Bioacoustics Laboratory, Department of Cognitive Biology, University of Vienna)
- Stephen Robertson (Head of Vocal Performance, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland)
